More than 350 people took part in the excursion held on the occasion of the 41st
Technological Seminar and visited the Weißbierbrauerei Schneider in Kelheim. On four
days in January and February, the seminar participants, headed by Prof. Dr.Werner Back,
could view the brewery's new plant equipment. The focus was on the cellar equipment in
hygienic design, the new dealcoholisation system, thermal treatment of "Speise" and the
new wood chip heating system. Several GEA companies, namely Tuchenhagen Brewery
Systems, Huppmann, Tuchenhagen, GEADiessel, GEAWiegand andWestfalia Separator
FoodTec, were on site and presented their equipment.

The wheat beer brewery Schneider in Kelheim has a current annual output of about 300,000
hectolitres of Schneider Weisse and is experiencing continuous growth, particularly in
terms of exports. The traditional Bavarian brewery has decided to stick to the natural
production method with bottle fermentation also in times of rising sales. Despite the risk
potentials involved, thermal treatment of the beers with flash pasteurisation and/or
filtration is definitely out of the question for the brewery.
